Student Housing Application - Student Validation
Research Project By: Aaron and Karen Dishno
Project Description:
In the dissertation The Development and Validation of the University Student Housing Application and Student Matching and Placement Methodology, the student housing application was developed and validated by housing experts currently working at universities throughout the United States. The final product consists of 43 question elements that should be included on the housing application at every college and university. Sixteen of the questions were deemed "information only" such as name, student ID, address, emergency contact information, etc. The remaining question elements are considered relevant information for matching students in dorm rooms. The complete list is available
here.
This study asks students to validate the housing expert version of the student housing application. Most significantly, are there any question elements that should be added, removed, or changed?

How does your Student Housing Application measure up?
Since student information collected from Student Housing Applications is used to match roommates at many universities, are the universities asking the right questions? This document was created for the purpose of circulating the Validated University Student Housing Application Question Elements to universities for the betterment of education and for all students subject to university housing. These Question Elements were validated by Student Housing Experts that represented twenty universities from large, small, public, and private schools.

About the Dissertation
Previously, inconsistencies in the student information collected by university housing made it extremely difficult to measure the effects student housing placement had on retention and academic achievement. This Delphi research development and validation dissertation created a universal student housing application as the foundation to collect student information for use by any college or university in the United States as a baseline to measure the effects that variations in the housing application have on student retention and academic performance. Furthermore, for the first time in educational research this dissertation developed and validated a method of matching students based on the information on the student housing application for the matching and placement in student housing rooms.
